Andy lost his right leg after cycling accident in 2011 when he was hit by a car travelling over twice the speed limit, which also resulted in a traumatic brain injury. Despite this, Andy returned to finish his Adventure Tourism Management degree and gained qualifications in Mountain Bike coaching and Leadership. Andy got interested in Snowboarding at university just before the accident, and soon after began competing.  Andy has volunteered with a number of organisations such as Disability Snowsport UK and Active Schools, encouraging younger generations and people with varying abilities into discovering the benefits that the outdoors brings. He also had the privilege of running with both the Olympic Torch in 2012 and the Commonwealth Baton in 2014.
