X-Games kicks off today, Slopestyle World Cup in full swing and World University Games in Almaty

GB Park and Pipe

The GB Park and Pipe snowboarders had a storming day in the Snowboard Slopestyle World Cup in Seiser Alm, Italy yesterday. Billy Morgan qualified through to the finals 1st in his heat, scoring a huge 93.25; Rowan Coultas was close behind scoring 90.00 to take 2nd in the same heat; followed by Jamie Nicholls who took 3rd in his heat, also going straight through to the final. Matt McCormick unfortunately just missed out on finals, finishing 11th in his heat. Aimee Fuller also put in a great performance to qualify for the Women’s finals in 2nd place in her heat. Finals are tomorrow, with the action starting at 10.00 GMT.

The skiers are in action today in the Ski Slopestyle World Cup qualifiers, also in Seiser Alm. Competing in the women’s qualifiers this morning was Katie Summerhayes and Madi Rowlands. Summerhayes finished 8th, making it through to semi finals, whilst Rowlands missed out on finals but places in a solid 13th place. For the men, Tyler Harding has qualified for the semi finals after finishing 7th in his heat; and Cal Sandieson has missed out on qualifiying for the next round, finishing 19th in his heat. The semi finals and finals take place on Saturday.

Katie Ormerod, James ‘Woodsy’ Woods, and Izzy Atkin are currently in Aspen, USA representing GB Park and Pipe at the X Games, which kick off today. In one of the most prestigious snowboard and freeski competitions of the season, Woodsy and Ormerod will go up against the world’s best with Izzy Atkin first alternate for women’s Ski Slopestyle. Both Woodsy and Ormerod are in action on Saturday in the Ski Slopestyle and Snowboard Slopestyle competitions, with Ormerod first alternate for the Big Air.

Delancey British Alpine Team

After a busy week for Dave Ryding, both on and off the snow, following his historic 2nd place finish in Kitzbühel and 10th place in the Schladming Slalom World Cup, he will next race at the Parallel Slalom World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden next Tuesday, 31st January.

Alex Tilley had another frustrating World Cup GS race on Tuesday, unfortunately just missing out on qualification for run two in Kronzplatz, Italy.

British Nordic

Fern Cates, James Clugnet and Duncan Gibb will be the trio of representatives for British Nordic at the at the Nordic World U23 and Junior Championships in Park City, Utah, USA. They will be joined by British ski jumping twins Jake and Robert Lock. The Championships begin on Monday 30th January.

British Telemark

In a busy period for the British Telemark team, Jasmin Taylor and Louis Hatchwell travel to Krvavec in Slovenia for the next Telemark World Cup which begins tomorrow, Friday 27 January. This follows Taylor’s World Cup podium finish in La Thuile last week.

World University Games

Recognised as the second largest multi-sport Games in the world after the Olympics, the Winter University Games, or Winter Universiade, begins this Sunday in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Ten British Ski and Snowboard athletes will be competing in the Games, including Delancey British Alpine Ski Team athletes Alice MacAulay and Alex Barounos, British Moguls skiers Liam Keyes, Sam Jones and Elodie Wallace. Elodie will also feature in the Aerials competition. Calum Paton will compete in Snowboard Slopestyle, Laurence Willows will compete in Ski Cross, whilst Douglas Green, Rob Wagner and Gillian Finnerty will be competing in the Snowboard Cross events.

British Ski and Snowboard Cross

This weekend sees British Snowboard Cross athletes Kyle Wise and Murray Koller compete in the Snowboard Cross Europa Cup in Grasgehren, Germany.

British Moguls Team

Four British Moguls athletes will compete in the Moguls Europa Cup in Albiez, France. Leonie Gerken Schofield, Makayla Gerken Schofield, Thomas Gerken Schofield and Will Feneley, will all be taking on their first Europa Cup of the season.
