VACANCY: PROVISION OF ASSISTANT COACH AND WAX TECHNICIAN SERVICES TO THE BRITISH ALPINE TEAM

GB Snowsport (GBS) is the national governing body for snowsports in the UK, managing elite British teams and the development pathway for those athletes.

We select, manage and lead British teams to international events, promote participation in FIS and World Para snowsports disciplines, and provide opportunities for our athletes to achieve their full potential as individuals and as a team.

Our vision is to become one of the top 5 Olympic and Paralympic Ski and Snowboard Nations by 2030.

We are looking for an experienced Assistant Coach and Wax Technician to provide a range of services (as detailed below) to the British Alpine Team. These services will be required on a number of days to be agreed over the period 15 June 2020 to 31 April 2021. A day rate will be paid depending on the level of knowledge, experience and skills brought to the services. Services

The Consultant will be called Assistant Coach and Wax Technician of the British Alpine Ski teams, reporting to the Head Coach of the British Ladies World Cup Alpine Ski Team. They will provide all of the service that a Wax Technician of GB Snowsport would reasonably be expected to provide. These Services will include:

 

  • To ensure the effective delivery of Alpine programmes by assisting Head Coach and other coaches with coaching and wax technician services.
  • To support structured training and competition plans, both on and off snow and to optimise physical and technical training for each athlete.
  • To build effective relationships with ski manufacturers and other partners as required.
  • To undertake research and development into skis and other equipment and prepare reports and recommendations as needed; trial and test skis.
  • To prepare a plan for the effective delivery of ski tuning equipment, costing and ordering as required.
  • To undertake ski and boot servicing for both racing and training as required.
  • To manage and maintain ski tuning equipment and coordinate, ordering and costing of new equipment.
  • To support commercial sponsorship plans and arrangements.
  • To report to Alpine Director/Head Coach (monthly and ad hoc) on athlete progress, performance and budgets etc.
  • To provide advice and guidance to Alpine Director/Head Coach and to the whole team.

  • To build, manage and maintain strong team relationships and maximise communication within the team.
  • To represent GBS in a professional and positive manner with both internal and external stakeholders and in doing so reflects the values of the organisation.
  • To provide outstanding customer service.
  • To maintain a good working knowledge of GBS objectives, athletes, commercial partners etc and developments in the sport.
  • To share ideas and make suggestions to improve the organisation.
  • To follow all GBS policies and procedures, especially those regarding equality and diversity,  and health and safety.
  • To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required in furtherance of the objectives of GBS.
