Vacancy: PART-TIME SAFEGUARDING & WELFARE OFFICER

We are looking for a part-time Safeguarding & Welfare Officer to be our designated safeguarding officer, supporting our staff to safeguard athletes and  undertake welfare support for our athletes.

 

This role reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), on a day to day basis you will work more closely with our Olympic Team Manager and Head of Paralympic Culture & Operations. This is a part-time role, one day per week (7 hours) based at our offices in central London and/ or at home. The ‘day’ can be worked as one day, split over 2 days or across the week as needed, in agreement with the CEO. We are happy to accept applications from people wishing to be employed or expressions of interest from consultants who wish to provide safeguarding and welfare services to GBS. Salary/ day rate will be dependent on qualifications and experience.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • To establish GBS’s approach to safeguarding; developing and implementing safeguarding policies, procedures and plans
  • To prepare and implement Safeguarding Action Plans in consultation with the Olympic Team Manager, Head of Paralympic Culture and CEO
  • To maintain the CPSU Advanced Standards for Safeguarding Children
  • To complete the Safeguarding Adults in Sport Framework
  • To deliver Safeguarding training internally and recommend external training
  • To develop and establish wider welfare policies and procedures
  •  To be the central point of contact for GBS team members, staff, athletes, parents for safeguarding and wider welfare matters and manage cases
  • To be the central point of contact for partner organisations (other sports) and external agencies including CPSU, Police, Social Care Services, LADO etc
  • To represent GBS at external meetings relating to safeguarding and child protection reporting back to the CEO
  • To manage the DBS check process and records, taking positive checks through the relevant process
  • To manage safeguarding cases through processes, including panel

 

To succeed you will need to have experience as a designated safeguarding officer (level 3 qualified), ideally in sport. You will also have experience of a wider welfare role, ideally involving both young people and adults. You will have experience of developing and implementing safeguarding policies and procedures and significant experience of case management. You will have strong relationship building and communication skills and ideally have experience of providing advice and guidance to CEO/ Board, line managers, team managers and athletes (or groups requiring similar support).
