A Tale of Two Katies

Last week brought contrasting fortunes for GB Park & Pipe’s Katies, with the pair experiencing vastly different news on the injury front.

For Katie Ormerod, it was all positive in her comeback from the broken heel she suffered on the eve of the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games. The 21-year-old was back on her snowboard for the first time since February, marking a significant step in her comeback.

“It felt sooo good!”, Ormerod told her social media followers. “Baby steps right now, just getting used to the skin graft and I’ll gradually keep building it up.

“Nice to see all my hard work in the gym paying off – so stoked!”

The news couldn’t have been more different for two-time Olympian Katie Summerhayes who is back on the sidelines after rupturing her ACL while training in New Zealand last month.

The injury initially ruled Summerhayes out of the big air world cup in Cardrona earlier this month, however an MRI subsequently revealed a more serious diagnosis than originally thought.

“It still hasn’t sunk in yet and I don’t feel like it will do for a while,” said Summerhayes announcing the news to her legion of social media followers. “I am so heartbroken and gutted as all I want to do is go skiing.

“As you all know, I will be back.”

Summerhayes scored her second consecutive Olympic top ten result in February despite competing on an injured ankle which had kept her off snow for most of the season following a World Cup podium in November.
