British Ski and Snowboard athletes challenge in Southern Hemisphere

British Ski and Snowboard athletes have been busy over the past few weeks, with many of the Alpine skiers training and racing in New Zealand and South America. The GB Park and Pipe team have been making the most of the good conditions in Australia, with some of the squad recently arriving in New Zealand for the start of the Cardrona Games.

Delancey British Alpine Team athlete Charlie Guest took a podium spot as she finished 3rd in the Coronet Peak Slalom ANC race last weekend, improving on her 4th place performance at the National Championships also in Coronet Peak last month.

Teammate Jess Anderson also had a strong race in the Coronet Peak ANC Giant Slalom, improving upon her GS PB she set last month at the Coronet Peak National Championships.

At the Cardrona Games James 'Woodsy' Woods secured his second Slopestyle win in consecutive days as he again stood on top of the podium.

Following Woodsy's win in the first Slopestyle contest of the Cardrona Games, he again showed his class as he came out on top in a tight contest against an international field. After a solid first run he sealed the win on his second run with a double 1260 and his unique Octo Grab.

Woodsy said after his wins: “It’s been a big two days of competition and I’m really proud to have won on both days. It’s a big test to make two finals and to land two runs. Respect to all the competitors, everyone killed it.”

There were also strong performances from team-mates Tyler Harding and Felix Klein who took 7th and 9th respectively in the finals. This followed their 8th and 11th places from the first Slopestyle contest. The performances continued with team-mates Rowan Cheshire and Peter Speight taking 4th and 8th place respectively in the Freeski Halfpipe Finals.

The Cardrona Games are jointly sanctioned as FIS (International Ski Federation) Continental Cups and AFP (Association of Freeskiing Professionals) Silver level events for the skiing contests.
