BACKING THE BEST

BACKING THE BEST

Snowsport England, supported by GB Snowsport, are delighted to announce the start of a new talent pathway project in the Greater Manchester area. Funding was secured through Backing the Best, managed through Sports Aid, to build a new snowsport scene in the Greater Manchester area focusing on creating opportunities for individuals who may not have considered taking part in skiing or snowboarding previously.

The project will work closely with world class facilities in Greater Manchester, including Chill Factore and Graystone Action Sports to build a training environment in the area to support the development of new and existing athletes.

Becky Bennett will be leading the project for Snowsport England and will be supported by Rob Taylor and Rowan Coultas as the coaching team.

Ian Findlay (Snowsport England Talent Lead): “We are delighted to have such a high-quality team in place to deliver this project. Becky and Rob have previously been working with us to organise and coach training camps. Rowan will bring a new dynamic to the team with his experience as an athlete competing at the 2018 Winter Olympics.”

The project will work with individuals in an off-snow environment, giving them experience of aerial moves in a reduced risk facility before transferring this to snow. Becky and the coaching will be working with new and existing athletes and working in collaboration with facilities to support the project.

Mark Ritchie (GB Snowsport Head of Talent): “We are really excited for this development and to be working in partnership with Snowsport England, local facilities and the newly established workforce,  to give new and existing athletes and local coaches an environment to progress their athletic/coaching careers as well as outside interests and qualifications. Watch this space, it is very exciting!”

Whilst challenges remain around the situation with COVID-19, the team will be working to ensure the project can get underway and deliver a positive experience whilst operating under the current guidelines and restrictions in place.
